Question regarding the water. My tap water is like liquid rock, terrible, and not much rain in So Cal, so can I start with distilled water and add nutrients? By the way, excellent videos, I learn so much.

@123Larra Cactus will respond to rich growing conditions the same as any other plant. Just because its a cactus doesnt mean that you have to keep it in desert conditions.

@brandonlawes an interesting fact is that many deserts are actually higher in nutrients than many rain forests. In the distant past many deserts were not deserts but climate changes (namely lack of water) caused most of the plant life to die off (adding their nutrients to the soil) where as in many of the nutrients in a rain forest are locked up in the plants instead of being in the soil.
